Tickle Me Elmo – Remember when this doll was all the rage? People used to fight in the malls to get this coveted gift of the year. We don’t always get what we ask for or what we really need. For example, the people of Israel wanted a military leader, a superhero. What they needed was to be rescued in a way they couldn’t understand. God sent a baby to save the world. So often our prayer time is like offering up a wish list to Santa with little thought for what we need. “If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask?” Christmas is a time to experience the gift of God in a powerful and tangible way. What if the gifts we give at Christmas are actually fueling our idols rather than our desire to know the one true God?
